The story that went under the water

Part of the history of our country disappeared when they began to make artificial reservoirs in Soviet times. Entire historical cities and towns have gone down in history and will never return. The Rybinsk reservoir was built in the forties of the twentieth century. During its construction, it was decided to flood several cities and settlements, and relocate people to other places. At the time of the flooding, 5-7 thousand residents lived in the city. The town is small but noble, with many shrines and monasteries located near it. The city paid great attention to education, at that time it had 9 gymnasiums, its own cinema, several libraries, and a small number of factories. The museum of the Mologsky Krai sank along with the city. It was famous for its extraordinary culture and was popular with the local population. Residents of the city still gather on the shore of the reservoir to remember him.



Korchev



It was once the county seat of the Tver Region. The residents were relocated to the neighboring town of Konakovo, which was located near the flooded city. Before the flooding, 3,317 people lived in it. The city was industrial, there were treacle and brewing plants, two gingerbread and two brick factories. It is also known that 41 shops were operating in the city at the time of the flooding. At the moment, something of the city has been preserved. This is the house of the Rozhdestvensky merchants and the old cemetery with the remains of the church. All this is now in an abandoned and overgrown state.



These two cities have completely disappeared from the face of the earth. The rest were either moved or partially submerged and then completed on the water-free part.
